Between the South Downs and the sea there is a strip of West Sussex with a cathedral city at one end of it and a seaside town at the other. Chichester has the Roman street plan, the cathedral and the theatre. Bognor Regis, seven miles east, is a different sort of place entirely. Arundel sits inland under its castle, and the Manhood peninsula runs south to Selsey and the Witterings with the harbour on one side.
